Tips for Ensuring That You Will Not Lock Yourself Out of Your Vehicle
Posted on: 17 January 2017
It is bad enough to lock yourself out of anywhere. It is even worse to lock yourself out of your vehicle, especially if you are far from home. Therefore, you will want to take a few moments to review the following tips so you will never have to deal with the panic that sets in when you are not able to get back into your vehicle.
Make a New Habit
A good way to ensure that you are less likely to get locked out of your vehicle is to never leave the keys in there with the doors locked. Sure, that sounds obvious, and many may say that that is easier said than done. However, it is much easier than you might think, as it simply involves forming a new habit.
Before you even open the door to exit the vehicle, make sure that your wallet or purse is in hand or on your body. Then, grab the keys and hold on to them until you are out of the vehicle and the doors are shut. Never throw them into a purse or a pocket because they then are out of sight. This is when you might forget or become mistaken, thinking that you already threw them in your purse when you never really did.
By keeping the keys tight in your hands until you exit the vehicle, it will be much easier for you to see that you do indeed have your keys. Forming this habit can save you a lot of frustration in the future.
Hide a Key on the Outside of Your Vehicle
Find a hide-a-key magnetic box that you can stick to the underside of your vehicle somewhere. Since you may be out in the open in front of strangers when you retrieve the key, you want to be cautious to make sure that you are not putting it back right away after you have unlocked the doors. Do not put the spare key back under your vehicle until you have left that area and are back at home. Even then, you will want to make sure that you are finding a new secret hiding spot under your vehicle. This way, it is less likely that anyone is going to be able to find it in the future.
With just those two tips in mind, you should find that you are not going to be as likely to become stuck outside in the cold because you cannot gain reentry to your own vehicle. If you do get locked out, a professional like those from Autolock Solutions can give you advice on what to do next.
